2008 Shipwreck Chardonnay - The sailors barley escaped with their lives... but they managed to save the wine.
THE STORY
When the storm comes, a ship can go down, but that can mean there’s treasure to be found. All we can tell you about this project is that the sailors barely escaped with their lives… but they managed to save the wine! Legend has it that Shipwreck Chardonnay was crafted by a triumvirate of talented grape growers who were attempting to smuggle out their booty under cover of the midnight fog, when tragedy struck. Consider this: The sinking of the Titanic was the biggest maritime tragedy of its decade… but the movie Titanic was the biggest grossing film of all time.

This is the treasure of Shipwreck. Not complicated, but definitely complex. Not sophisticated, yet retains a sense of elegance. It boasts no lineage, but has obvious pedigree. It is not made every year: only when tragedy strikes and the wine must be saved.

TASTING NOTES
The beauty of this wine is that is both bright and rich. The nose and palate ripple with tropical fruit notes, yet underlying it all is a creamy elegance from barrel fermentation and aging. A hint of minerality and spice add complexity, and ample acidity brings the wine into balance.
